Small Business Spotlight
Common Grounds Coffee House is a welcome new addition to downtown Grabill. Located at 13531 Main Street, behind the Country Shoppes of Grabill in a historic log cabin, Lyndsie and Kaleb Hardley opened up shop on May 4th, 2020. The Hardley’s received keys to the space on February 29th, right before the COVID-19 pandemic became a harsh reality for so many small businesses.
The Hardley’s renovated the space into a coffee shop on the first floor that offers specialty coffees, teas, lemonade, cookies and treats as well as soup and sandwich lunch specials. The upper floor of the space is rented out for meetings and gatherings.
As active members of Grabill Missionary Church, the Hardley’s see this venture as a way to give back to the community. They are meeting local demand and bringing new life into the downtown. The Gobena coffee offered at Common Grounds also serves their heart for missions as coffee with a cause. 100% of the net profits received by Gobena are reinvested into the lives of children all over the world through Lifesong for Orphans.
The Hardley’s have employed local residents as baristas to run the coffee house and are grateful to have the support of the community. Their effort is being complemented by nearby investment at the Country Shoppes of Grabill and the town’s upcoming downtown streetscape improvement project. The Hardley’s have also started a second business, CG Scoots, that provides scooters for rent throughout the town and in between Grabill and Leo-Cedarville.
Outside of their work in downtown Grabill, Kaleb works at Steel Dynamics and Lyndsie and Kaleb are busy raising their three children and breeding Labrador Retrievers.
